The public employment service State (SEPE), through the observatory of occupations, conducts research on the labour market focusing on the knowledge of economic activities and occupations, as well as in the trends and employment prospects, to know what economic activities that have better employment prospects in the short and medium term.

This report analyzes the retail trade sector taking into account the importance in the country's economy. A sector that, having proved very affected by the recent economic crisis, is showing signs of recovery and, moreover, must face and meet the challenges posed by the modernization, the change of habits in consumption, the high competence and technological advances on digitization affecting economic activity in general and especially the retail trade.

Before the great challenge of competitiveness and adapting to a new reality in retailing, in regard to employment, it is very important to know how the demand for new occupations and what the new competences required by the market to workers, in order to adapt the training offer training needs that generates this reality changeable.
